Hello everyone,

Rachael again JeffG daughter. Pretty tired tonight but for some reason I was drawn to this website. When I clicked the link guess who was the faces of cholangiocarcinoma?? My daddy! Since I haven't been on here in so long I didn't think I remembered the password but, I got it right on the first try! The 1st anniversary of my dad's passing as come and gone soo quickly. I'm not too proud of how my family handled it but, I know everything happens for a reason.
I think I am on here tonight to seek advice and guidance. I only talk to a few close friends because I try not to burden everyone else. I feel so overwhelmed with life and I'm trying so hard to stay strong but it seems like the only ones I can stay strong enough for are my two little babies. Pierceton and Brooklyn...
The sad part is they have seen me cry way too much in the last year and I really need to find more strength!
Can anyone help me?
With Love,
Rachael
(Missing you forever daddy... my best friend)

Hello everyone,
This is Rachael, Jeffg's daughter. I have wanted to get on here several times in the last 6 months but  I still can't type without the tears. I just noticed this discussion board this week and wanted to thank everyone for the kind words about my father. Holidays are close and it seems like my mom, brother and I are going down another low road and I hope that it goes by fast. It's really hard to stay in the spirit with my little kids. Well I hope everyone has the best holiday possible. I hope to get back on here more often.

Lots of hugs,
Rachael and family

Hello everyone,

This is Rachael (Jeff's Daughter) and Valerie. My dad has gotten really weak this last month. He is only on a liquid diet and is very grumpy, so we know that things have progressed as expected. We have prayed for soooo long for a miracle. Please keep praying for my dad and hopefully the best miracle will happen for him to take away his pain! I think every day that there are no more tears left inside of me but I prove myself wrong everyday. I have read so many comments from everyone that my dad has inspired and I am so happy to see how he makes everyone laugh like he does with our family. My dad is my best friend and I will promise to keep his spirit alive through this website. This website has been a joy to my dad for the last few years especially when he was stuck at home while we work everyday. So, I will close for now and hope everyone has a good weekend.
Love,
Rachael and Valerie

Hi Lainy..........Way to go Mr. T.  Your an inspiration to us all.
Get started on the vacation plans.
God Bless You Both!

Oh! what a week in December, 63 !  Hospital visit every day last week.  Had CT Scan and saw GI Doc.  Labs taken 6 times due to potassium low levels.  Eight hours of IV drip of potassium and will continue powdered form 4 times daily for two weeks.  Results of scan showed no blockage of bile ducts and GI doc suggest it's the liver failing due to tumors.  He did order a sonagram and a special billibrium blood test that I guess gives two different readings.  A low and high.  If one or the other is present it determines/confirms any blockage in the esophagus and if stenting within the liver its self would be of any good.  Potassium wise,  have to watch the diuretics and oral stool softener with salt as it slowly drains your body of potassium.  Same goes for the suppositories.  GI doc thought maybe all that daily dose of mirilax may be adding stress to the liver causing the juandice to be more pronounced.  I guess we'll see in the next couple of weeks.  In the mean time, I'm still wobbling around out of balance using the cane.  Had a couple more falling into the walls because of my socks getting caught up under my toes.  Time for the socks to come off.  Cherrio for now!
God Bless,
Jeff G.

Hi Lisa,  I agree with Lainy, could be just about anything.  I personally over 2 years ago had a MRI done do to headaches and it turned out to be nothing cancer related.  If it has not gotten better within a week, I would get checked for a possible sinus infection first of all. My daughter has had 3 sinus infections in the last two months just because of weather changes.  Talking about weather changes, it is going from spring to deep freeze 20's tonight, crazy hey? And what about the polar region and what global warming has done today.  Fatigue , worrying of the possibility, and stress may also cause phatom symtoms as well.
Bless Ya!
Jeff

Hi G.,  Looks like you have been running the gambit of treatments.  The stomach distention, I can only guess out loud and say maybe your having a little stomach shrinkage due to the disease.  The only other thing I can think of is bowel movements of at least once every other day if your diet is still normal.  Wishing you the best G.

Dear Pam,  My sincere condolences.  My thoughts of sympathy and prayers go out to you and your Family.  May your Mom's loving memories help ease the the emotional pain.

Janet,  I had both done done in the ward and CT guided.  Basically I was told that with CT you can immediately see if there is any damage as far as punctured lungs, even if a pin hole and can be taken care of immediately.  On the ward it is is usually done with sonogrham and the stay is for the same reason,  to be precautious.  They normally use a portable xray machine after so many hours then one more before discharge to ensure all is well.  There is just so much that can be poked or perferated, they want to make sure.  I am happy Barbara's Dad was able to get fluid drained and I pray it stays away.  Barbara, I sure hope your Dad's drainining is for an extended period or stays drained.  Did the Doctor mention anything about taking Ibprofen to help keep the inflammationation down?  I know it helped big time on me.  Bless you Girl, your one loving daughter!
Jeff G.

Lisa.........I'm with you all the way.  Also, if needed you can work up to a certain number of part time hours without being penalized.  Keep your chin up! You will do just fine.
Bless Ya!
Jeff

Hi Debra...  I just wanted to echo what everyone else has said.  I am happy to hear such good results.  I can also relate to the shrinking of the liver.  When I had radiation, part of my livere atrophied which basically stopped growth for a good period of time.  It really makes me happy to see the words of hope and faith reappear in the posts lately.  Even though our lives are always in the hands of God, he likes to hear the self convictions of his children.  Keep up that positive attitude, it'll take you great distances with little miracles in between.  I just found my gold ring after being loss for 3 months.  It had the word Dad on it wirh diamond accents.  My kids gave it to me years ago until my fingers became so skinny it slid off one day.  I found it inside a t-shirt of my dresser drawer.  I know it is sentimental but reminds me of the white pebble story on the beach.  God Bless, and continue your positive progress.  That goes for the rest of you all as well, Lots of love to you all!

Barbara...  Fluid retention is an inherited problem of this disease.  Although some patients are not affected as much as other and some not at all.  As I read through the last few post, I have to agree completely with what I am hearing.  Basically the more you have it done the more risk your putting yourself at.  When it comes to the feet and legs, your looking at a progressive situation of pittted retention without cavity space to properly drain anything.  If you take your finger and apply pressure and watch it fill as you let go, I would consider pitted.  Now, I have had 3 drains done between my lungs and chest cavity about 4 months ago and it stayed away.  Now it is in my feet and lower legs.  Lasix and elevation of feet is about all that helps to any degree.  I just have to accept the fact this is progressive of the disease and maybe it'll stop or not.  There are other diuretics and you can go up on dosage if the doctor is willing, but in my opinion your putting your kidneys and heart at great risk.  Maybe trying oxygen to help with circulation.  But then what? Are you going to circulate too?  Is there a chance of filling another cavity that you don't want to do. There is a company in N.C. that claims to have a spray under the tongue solution to relieve fluid retention of feet and lower legs but,  But I wonder what lurks behind this unknown.  Hopice is there to make us patients as comfortable as possible due to circumstance beyound our control.  So far I have had extreme satisfaction.  Sometimes there is only so much that can be done.  No, I'm not saying don't advocate for your Dad, by all means if there is something that can be done, love rules.  However, if increase danger is the option, I would say enough and elevate the feet and keep an eye on the potassium levels.  Barbara, I'm sorry your Dad is having such an uncomfortatble time with his feet. I pray that he gets relief some way, some how.  I did while having my drains done take an anti-inflammatory 800mgs of Ibprofen 3 times a day. Did it help ? I don't know.
Jeff G.

Great news Suzanne !  Keep the ball rolling in your court.  That air bubble feeling could be inflammation from the tube like you said.  It could also be a blob of flem.  I know sounds gross, but I had it happen twice post surgical.  Felt good when it finally let loose.  If it is really bothering you breathing wise go get it checked out for piece of mind.  For food try boiled eggs, beans, drinks like already mentioned, healthy choice low sodium soups.  Keep on the mend.
God Bless,
Jeff G.

Rose May...  I would probally run this by your Doctor.  I have been having slight juandice and itching on and off for about a month now and feel It has been kept somewhat undercontrol using magnesium citrate Sol 1/2 bottle by mouth once a week.  (150ML) immediately followed with 12 oz of water.  Then drink about 8 glasses a day as usual.  It is prescribed for constipation and other reasons.  I take it along with senna x 4 a day.  It really clears out the narrow parts of you bile ducts and allows a better flow. I have no sents, but am having narrowing in another way.  Check it out with your doctor, it just may give you some relief.  This can be purchased OTC for about $2.00 a bottle, althought hospice picks up for me.  Just one 1/2 bottle a week is plenty.  It is basically a sodium base laxative and breaks sludge up and at the same time reduces inflammation.  Just a thought from the peanut gallery.  Hope your itching is resolved soon Rose May.
God Bless,
Jeff G.

Rose May... I'm so sorry to hear of matters getting worse.  I sincerely hope your partner's granddaughter is okay and that his oldest daughters surgery for Ovarian cancer goes well.  Going back to cc and intimacy.  Well, you have to do what you have to do. You cannot subject your self to pain and discomfort.  Your partner needs to understand the difference between itimacy and love and make a choice.  There comes a time when this disease progresses ,like Carol mentioned and any attempt becomes useless.  Even the frequent hugs and kisses start to slide eventually.  It's called lost of libido ,drop in seratonin and CANCER!  My prayers that all works out for you and your partner.
