Well they did a CT scan today. Not good news.

My lymph nodes surrounding my stomach are now affected by the cancer. Every time I eat or drink it increases the blood flow which means the lymph nodes apply even more pressure to my stomach. Hence the pain. They also saw a spot in my stomach and told me I need to discuss all these results in more detail with my oncologist. They gave me a prescription for Oxycodone so I can tolerate the pain better.

Why does it feel like I keep losing every battle?

Thanks for your input all. I think I will go crawl back under my rock for  little bit.

Mel

Hi All,

I was wondering if any of you have experienced abdominal fullness after eating or drinking.

For the last 3days, I have been is such pain after I eat or drink it is almost unbearable. My stomach is almost rock hard. I intend on calling my doctor tomorrow to tell her about it, but I thought one of you might be able to enlighten me till I call the doctor.

Thank you,
Mel

Hi Snowlady,

I have been over one week on xeloda alone, and the abdominal pain has stopped. No side effects to report.

Thanks,
Mel

Oh Kris,

I don't know what to say - my tumor is in the same location as yours. I know how the doctors want to tread carefully with surgery in this area. I wish you all the strength you need. I am sending positive vibes to your medical team so they can make this miracle happen! You deserve it!!

Mel

Outstanding!! I love seeing people beat the odds the doctor's give them.

Thank you Marion. I know it has been awhile. Sometimes I try to give myself a break from reading or researching about this awful cancer. I guess I need to "forget" from time to time.

Day 3 of xeloda, and still only abdominal aches. I have been good about putting bag's balm on my hands and feet twice a day-hopefully I won't get the hand-foot disease.

All the best,
Mel

I just started my very first round of Xeloda today. I know it is very early, but I have just experienced some abdominal discomfort. I was pretty shocked that some of the symptoms are starting to show so quickly.

Snowlady - I will post here again if I experience any other side effects.

Thank you,
Mel

In the words of the Rolling Stones -

You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you might find
You get what you need

I am so glad to hear you are now getting what you need!!!

I just picked it up from the pharmacy. It is in the same section as the normal Gravol. I should mention that I don't suffer with nausea, but I bought the ginger gravol because it wouldn't make me drowsy if I ever needed it.

I hope your mom is doing well,
Mel

I can't believe they canx it. I think Sloan Kettering or Dana Farber are doing similar trials with Proton Beam. I just wish my cancer hadn't metastasized so I could be a candidate.

My sister finally came up with a name for my tumour!! and I love it!

MOFTA - MOther F****** TumA. So that is what we call it smile

Hi Scraggles,

I too am being treated at PMH for stage IV cholangiocarcinoma - unresectable. My oncologists are Dr Knox and Dr Horgan - both of them excellent. My radiologist is Dr Rebecca Wong - a person with whom some of the doctors at MD Anderson in Houston consult with regularly with this disease.

Sometimes I take ginger gravol. It doesn't make me drowsy at all. Perhaps that might help your mom.

All the best,
Mel

I had a met appear on my pelvic bone. The hospital did a bone scan and found no other tumours than that one.

Mel

All the best to you

Hey kris,

I am so happy you are feeling great. Hold onto it and have a blast in Greece!

Mel

I like Alien!!

Hi Kris,

I hope all is much better now. Sorry to hear about the breakdown. I tend to get mine when I am riding the subway! No idea why, I just start to tear up. Love the anti-funeral. Here I have been thinking of having a living funeral if for friends and family if things don't go my way. Some people just don't understand that we have to joke around about these things smile

By the way - kudos to you for learning a new language during this difficult time. Just thinking about it makes me cringe.

All the best,
Mel

Thank you Wendy and Ashley!

I am still trying to come up with a name for my tumour. It is difficult to name something you want to die. Hmm - I hate lima beans - maybe I'll call it Lima - LOL!

Hi Darla,

Thank you for the encouragement! Once I am finished with the treatments I will go get my tattoo!

Hi Donna,

I have an ERCP and a PTC which drains into an external bag.The ERCP came first, but didn't do much so they added the PTC drain. Both are plastic. The first 2 months after receiving the PTC drain was very uncomfortable and I also ended up with a blood infection (can't say for certain if this was from the PTC). I have had both stents in for 7months.

There were a few times when I found a little bit of blood in the bag, but it was only like a teaspoon - that hasn't happened in a long while.

Also for the first month, the site where the tube comes out seemed to always be moist with bile. I or the nurse would have to change the dressing frequently.

As for bilirubin levels - mine are all over the board - they go from 45 - 88. I am in Canada so I am not sure if they use the same measurements in the US for this.

I have decided to start eating Oat Bran for breakfast every morning - it apparently helps with the elimination of bile in your liver.

Hope this helps - all the best,
Mel
