Hi all..thankyou for all the info I recieved on this website..my brother who lived in Berlin, Germany passed away last sunday after a 14mo battle with a klatskin tumor...I would like to briefly offer a synopsis of his battle..diagnosed 14mos ago, inoperable klatskin tumor...received 5Fu and Cisplatin, which initially shrank his tumor by 1/2...but problem was all the stent infections, stent blockages, stent changes..that is what ultimately did him in I believe..he eventually developed bile sepsis and never made it out of the hospital after that...he only had one dose of Gemzar...He was the picture of health for 1 year solid...looked great, ate great, walked for miles all over, we visited him twice during that time, and you would never even know anything was wrong...then the all the stent problems started...and that was that...two months later he died...I'm sorry if this is blunt...but it happened exactly as I had read on the cancercompass website...perfectly fine for one solid year...then the stent problems, then two month later he was gone...I know there have been people who have not even had that long with their families, and others who are still surviving long after diagnosis...god bless each and every person, friend and family member to enjoy what time they have with each other and always hold onto hope..my brother was told he didn't have long, and he survived 14 mos to continue to enhance our lives...Godspeed brother...and everyone hold onto hope always!!!

Hi all..my brother has the klatskin tumor, he lives in Germany...question: he keeps getting infections in the duct stent he has...they may replace the plastic one with a metal one now...anyway...could the klatskin tumor be getting bigger and pressing on the duct, as why it is getting blocked? I know it gets blocked with the bile, but why is this happening so frequently is my question? He hasn't had a CAT scan in two months! He asks the doctors and they say they will look into him getting a CAT scan it for next time..its ridiculous...could it be from the tumor getting bigger?

Lisa...thankyou so much for your words of encouragement...and I wish you well....

Marions...thankyou for the offer of the german translation...our frustration has been not being able to speak with a doctor about his care...it seems like my brother isn't even able to talk with anyone. He says the doctors change constantly...they get his dosages wrong...he was sent for a procedure he wasn't supposed to have...But he also doesn't ask a lot of questions...he is getting better about taking charge of what is going on...but he is afraid of bad news when he asks questions...we have been to see him twice in the past year, and are going again in April or May...that has been great...its hard with all of us living so far apart..

Thankyou everyone...my brother lives in Berlin Germany, and the rest of the family lives in US...he is there with his family...it has been frustrating for us with his course of treatment there, as we don't speak German...and there have been some mishaps...But he is doing well right now...and they have changed his chemo to Gemzar...He was the picture of heath before this...thankyou for your encouragment...

Hi all...my brother was diagnosed one year ago with Klatskin tumor, unresectable...he has been getting chemo and stent changes ever since...you wouldn't even know he was ill with this, except for when the stent gets infected...he just started on Gemzar...my question is: can someone prepare me for what to expect now that he is one  year in, and seems to be doing well...I really want to know an average of how much time he may or may not have...thankyou for your answers...
