Topic: I'm Back!!

I was on this site every day 3 1/2 years ago when my husband was diagnosed with CC.  A year in, he was on deaths door with constant infections from the plastic stents.  Then a doctor was able to replace them with metal stents and he recovered and has been fine ever since till a few months ago.  Also a doctor told him he couldn't see anything on the cat scan and 'maybe he doesn't even have it".  well, Karl took that info and ran with it telling everyone he does not have cancer.  We moved to another state and he never told the new docs about his past.A few m onths ago he started having heartburn and not wanting to eat much.  Also he was falling all over and appeared to be losing his mind.  I will make a long story short..He fell into the bathtub, vomited all over the house, b roke his ribs and couldn't eat anything and I called the ambulance.  he now has a tumor the size of a man's fist which is in his pancreas and has completely blocked the food exit in his stomach and they have pumped out about 3 months of food.  2 days ago they did a bypass on his stomach.  Tonight I should be getting the prognosis. so I will be back online tomorrow for sure!!!! Re: I'm Back!!

Judi,
This is an awful development for your husband. I'm glad they did the bypass quickly. GI stomach bypass has been a topic of discussion recently and is one of Marion's special concerns. It's a big deal but many have recovered well and a member named LisaS can probably give you tips as she just had a similar surgery a couple months ago.
How nice that your husband had 2.5 years of good, worry free living. Perhaps his mindset (thinking he was permanently cancer free) helped him to live fully and feel less stress. We all know that this is a tricky cancer, even when there is no evidence of disease on a scan, but we also all have different coping means. Are you still in Carson City, NV? Where was bypass done? (Reno?). I'm in N. CA. Best to you and so sorry you're thrown back into this awful situation. Take care.

Re: I'm Back!!

Hi Minnie, wish I could say its good to see you again! What a terrible turn of events and shows that when changing Doctors ie moving it is so important to get an MD quickly and let them know your history. I have a typed note I carry at all times  with all my MD names and phone numbers and specialties. Also a list of Meds and my list of surgeries. Oh, I also have my daughters name and number on it and I give it to every doctor I see. Good he got in as quick as he did and hoping for the very best and looking forward to your next post. Be strong!

Hi Minnie,

Welcome back to the site. Real sorry to hear what your husband has been through lately and I hope now that his new docs know what is going on that that they can deal with the issues. Sounds like they are on the ball here and please let us know how everything goes for Karl.

My best wishes to you both,

Gavin

Re: I'm Back!!

Thanks all.  We are snowbirds so when this happened we were in the Palm Springs area.  He is at Eisenhower hospital which is supposed to be very good.  He had the best surgeon in the desert.  No results from the biopsy yet but he is doing well after the stomach bypass and started to drink liquids today.

Re: I'm Back!!

Thanks for the update Minnie, and I hope he continues to improve quickly and smoothly. Teddy's daughter lives in Palm Springs. Try and enjoy some of that beautiful weather!

Re: I'm Back!!

Hi Judi, On my 4th stent replacement, I contracted cholangitis.  Like your husband Karl, I was extremely ill and admitted into emergency.  I, too, could not walk without falling, couldn't eat, talking that made no sense, and vomiting.  It was a difficult infection to cure.  After my 6th stent on January 5, 2014, I felt okay, but the 7th stent procedure has to be done again in a few weeks.  You mention Karl had a stomach bypass.  Let me know how Karl and you are doing and if the stomach bypass has helped your husband.

Re: I'm Back!!

Hi Minnie,  my husband was diagnosed with cc on march 2012. He weighed 240 & now he weighs 125. For about 2 months he has not wanted to eat & has been to the ER for throwing up several times. Dr. Did a EGD Thursday & said stomach is not emptying. Stopped up at the duadnal. Just a very tiny opening. He is going to try to get a stint through it next week. I pray they can. Is this the same thing your husband had?  Hope he is doing well. Please keep us informed as to his progress as we r praying for y'all. I don't know what our next option is.

Re: I'm Back!!

Hi Judi,

I'm glad the by-pass has been done and your husband is starting to recover from it and that this will help him feel better generally.

Re: I'm Back!!

Hello again, to lj1954, that is exactly what happened to my husband. The tumor is blocking the exit of his stomach.  Instead of a stent they did a gastric bypass surgery.  he is now eating a little and it seems to be going well but he got C-diff, a serious infection.  Today is day 12 in the hospital and they are transferring to a nursing home for a couple weeks as a transition.  He is extremely weak. I don't know enough about it to know if that is an option for your husband.  Karl's tumor is the size of a small fist and is right in the center of all everything, stomach, pancreas, liver, bile ducts.
