Topic: SOS - WE WANT AVASTIN

hi everyone -

can anybody help/advise:

Today we met with an oncologist for a second opinion - the problem is that we can't get the drugs we want.  2 oncologists now have told us that avastin is a great drug and could benefit my dad, in addition today we learnt that carboplatin (that my dad is on) is a '2nd line generation drug' - oxylplatin is 3rd generation (hence better) - again inferred that this may be more beneficial.

The problem is the system here in the UK, clinicians can only prescribe drugs that have been licensed for approval by 'NICE' (a beaurocratic body which is widely criticised for excessive delays) avastin has not been approved yet even for bowel cancer (for which there is good evidence as to effectiveness) let alone cholangio..so getting the drug on the NHS is not going to happen..

even if we went privately the cost is excessive and could spiral out of control (NHS won't even administer the drug or treat symptoms/side effects) further complicated by the fact that we have been unable so far to find an oncologist willing to prescribe it - I NEED HELP WITH THIS!

CAN ANYONE PROVIDE ME WITH DETAILS OF ANY TRIALS YOU KNOW OF FOR CHOLANGIO SHOWING GOOD RESULTS WITH AVASTIN. OXYLPLATIN OR BOTH? - I STRESS THAT I DO NEED THE RESULTS NOT JUST DETAILS OF TRIALS TAKING PLACE..

ALSO DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A CENTRE/DR IN EUROPE PRESCRIBING THESE DRUGS FOR USE IN CC?

thankyou so much for your support,

jules
