Topic: Taxotere; Is it doing any good?

Hi Ya All ! (sounds like that lady on the cooking show)Hey?
CT Scan showed 50% reduction in liver tumor with poorly defined density and slight peripheral enhancement.  Lungs considered stable with exception of some increased plural effusion activity. Nodule adjacent esophogus stable. All other organs appears normal. Well hello new nodule adjacent the rectosigmoid colon 4. x 2.8 CM. Will watch and if increase have it removed or radiation.  Blood work to my surprize was pretty good.  CA-A19 down to 19 and other marker was 29, both well within normal.  I guess I can't complain this time around although it appears like that dog gone CC wants to play hide and seek.  Will see Onco tomorrow and see what we come up with for a plan of attack this time.  That Taxotere is not that bad with side effects to speak of except it is so harsh on the immune system.  Tune in next week as My World Turns.  Ha!Ha!  You all keep on trucking! If you get a flat tire , change it and keep on rolling!  right over the CC.

I am SO happy for you. Not that I play favorites, but you and Peter get a special prayer everynight as in my mind the two of you hold the beacon of hope for all the rest of us...I guess the equivalent of the Statue of Liberty in the CC world. Yes, I did just turn your good news into good news for us all and I appreciate that it is a little selfish. But you long timers are so important to the rest of us. We need you guys.

So big hugs to you and to your wife. I am sure she is just over the moon-not to mention your daughter and grandbaby. I hope the oncologist develops a good plan of attack for you. Best of luck. And as they say in Swedish "till luka" in other words congratulations.

Hi Jeff,

Been a while since I posted as still recovering from my father's passing.  Been reading your posts though and after reading this one, really happy for you and wish you all the best.  Hope you zap that new nodule, and as for CA19-9 Marker, couldn't be better! 

Just a bit of advice, keep an eye on that pleural effusion.  Are you breathing heavier?  Sorry to ask, but just thought you should keep an eye on it and let the docs know.

Thanks guys!  I'm going to keep plugging along.  CDR.. you know I actually asked itsy bisty the doplphin to heal my liver while I was rubbing and kissing her (telepathically).  Jliu168... I will take your advice and express my concern to the Doctor today.  I let his nurses know about it yesterday.  They did say that it could clear itself but surely needed to be watched and explain the symtoms.  In fact I will not press on with another treatment until resolved.  They feel it was medication induced.  I'll give an update after seeing the Doc today.

P.S.  I know the Lungs are going to be the toughest to keep stable, so I,m focusing in on lung specific stuff now.  Any suggestions will be surely welcomed.

Great news, Jeff!!!  So glad for you. 

   My wife, Lana had CT scan Wednesday.  Tumor or her liver has not increased in size.  A few spots on her lungs have reappeared.  So, after five rounds of gemcitabine (which she did not tolerate well at all) and six rounds of oxaliplatin, the doc decided to change the treatment to cisplatin along with a smaller dose od gemcitabine.  He also set us us for an interview for a clinical trial at the Indiana University Medical Center.

Anyway ... that's wonderful news from you.

Steve, glad to hear Lana is holding her own.  I went to the Doctor yesterday and we decided to postpone chemo for a couple weeks.  He prescribed some pills to remove the fluid and felt over all the scan was pretty good. He felt confident it was the chemo that caused the effusion and that it will clear up.  He did not think my lung tumors were of any size to cause effusion yet. The additional area that showed up he felt was a lymph node full of fluid due to effusion and hopes the pills prescribed will take care of that as well.  But will keep an eye on it and go after it with radiation if it doesn't shrink away.  I felt satisfied with my visit as that was what my body and mind was saying it wanted to do. Wish Lana luck with the trial.  Did they say what type of drugs are involved?

Thanks for the encouragement, Jeff.

No, we didn't find out what drugs will be used in the trial.  This particular doctor is the principal investigator in 2 or 3 different trials. I have heard that she is quite good and is on the leading edge of research in cancers of the billiary, liver, etc areas.  Dr. Elena Chiorean.

I'll keep you posted.
