Topic: SO......... it has returned!

After a year and 6 months.  The cancer has returned!  I feel lost!  We are going to start chemo next week.  Chucks is scared and so am I.  WOW! it's like he was doing so well and then all of the sudden at his best it knocks him back down.  I feel so bad for him, I know he is tired of fighting this.  I just don't know what to say to him other than that I love him and support him and will be there for him ever step of the way. I just can't bear to think that I could loose him.  It is not an option for us.

Re: SO......... it has returned!

Chrissy... I'm sorry to hear the news about chucks.  Have they Dx how much of a return it is?  What kind of chemo are they going to start him on?  You have it right Chrissy love and support him step by step.  Wishing you guys the best and will be chatting anytime you wish.

Re: SO......... it has returned!

Chrissy....so very sorry.  Someone described this cancer as a monster lurking, always.  Where did it recur?  Wondering about other possible treatments to combat this beast.
Sending tons of hugs to you and Chuck.

Re: SO......... it has returned!

It looks like there are 3 small tumors in the liver.  No where else.  The doctors are looking at starting Gemzar and Xeloda next week shrinking the tumors down to a very small size and then using RFA to rid the liver of them completely.  This is not the immediate course of action being that he has already had liver resection, his liver is compromised and don't want to shoot it with too much radiation.  They would rather shrink them and then do the RFA.  Well, I guess I am just happy we have a plan (some course of action.) The issue right now is that he has a blood clot.   I am looking forward to many more years with him.  I am not going to let go that easy.  If you guys have any suggestions, please feel free.  It seems as though once again we have been blessed to come across a great oncologist who says that as long as Chucks is willing to fight, he will be right along side of him.  He says that every patient is special to him being that his father passed away from cancer.  He is willing to try anything available including Vitamin C shots.  He said that he has done this for his patients but doesn't know if it has really helped them.  There is no sign that it has.  Let me know what you guys think.

Christina.

Re: SO......... it has returned!

Chrissy, my husband is the Miracle Man and  I would like to say something about about Vitamin C. My daughter's fiance was diagnosed with Lymphoma a year ago. He is 48 and in great health otherwise. He had his chemo and decided along with that to do the Vitamin C intravenous after reading up on it. First he went to a clinic here in Phoenix called Envita then switched over to a Naturalpathic doctor and she was half the price. Insurance companies do not cover this. At any rate, he swears by these Vitamin C treatments. This doctor has dealt with patients who had CC and lung cancer and the whole kit and kaboodle. He has met actual clients of hers in the office and the Vitamin C is working for a lot of people. He met a child with brain cancer and a man with lung cancer. GONE! No cancer. Of course I am sure it does not work for everyone but it is certainly worth a painless try. My Miracle Man is going in July for Cyber knife surgery another NEW non-invasive way to kill the monster! Good luck. P.S. The Vitamin C also helps ease the side effects of chemo. Lainy

Re: SO......... it has returned!

Chrissy,
Your post is the post that all of us dread. I feel on the verge of tears for you. I cannot imagine how devasted you and Chuck are right now. It sounds like your doctors have a plan of attack which is well thought out and doable. Hopefully, it will nip it in the bud. I am sending you two my best thoughts.

Kris

Chrissy
Hi I am new to the site but my stepdad is dealing with cc that has come back with a vengeance back i the liver, stomach, chest wall cavity, and multiple lymph nodes.  I truly hope the best for you all and if it is confined that they can stop it.  I did want to ask if you are famiiar with a Dr. Canady in PA?  I had read about him and sent him an e-mail on Friday afternoon and he called me on Saturday.  I saw his info on the research section.  I already lost my dad to colon cancer and I am not ready to lose my step dad to this terrible disease. I just wanted to ask if you had heard of this Dr?

Re: SO......... it has returned!

Sherri... Sorry to hear about your stepdad.  You Said  you spoke with Dr. Canady.  I was just wondering if he is back doing surgery now?  I have followed his media and controversies pretty closely.  Is There anything he suggested that might be of any help for your Stepdad? I surely wish you and your stepdad the best.

Re: SO......... it has returned!

Sherri, I am so sorry to hear about your father and stepdad.  They really are now starting to make advances with this type of cancer.  Keep your hopes high and find a worth while oncologist that is willing to fight for him.

I have heard of him and read many good and (some bad) things.  I am really not sure what to think.  He is willing to take a chance which I think other doctors are not for fear of lawsuits, loss of medical license, etc.  We honestly had a really great liver specialist at cedars-sinai who performed the initial surgery which other surgeons said was not possible giving him a year and 6 months without cancer (or at least without being sick.)  Now it looks as though we have found a great oncologist who is really willing to try anything out there available for cancer patients which I do like.  He will look into herbal supplements, fruit, etc. make sure that it is not harmful.  It feels as though he really has our best interest at heart and that fills me with hope.  I can't wait to see his ca 19-9 drop.  I just know that it will.  It is sometimes difficult for me to stay positive but honestly I am the only one who does anything for him.  Unfortunately, everyone else in his family claims to be there except physically, emotionally, financially, etc.  Basically they say how they are there but show no signs of it.  So I have to stay strong not just for me but for him.

I will pray for you and your family.

Christina,
We are all thinking of you and Chuck. We all read these posts and hope to not see postings like this. Fight on - you are not alone in this, and advances ARE being made every day. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Re: SO......... it has returned!

I also contacted Dr Canady for my dad.  Sent him all the records.  Dr Canady said that he thought my dad was a candidate for surgery.  At that time we were waiting on the results of he latest CT scansafter treatment of 5-FU and radiation.  Dr Canady said he would call me to discuss further but he never did.  This was in April.   We got the CT scan and it appeared that the cancer had gotten bigger.  I was afraid after all the negative press about Dr Canady and am afraid to take chances with my dad's health.  So I didn't pursue any futher.  He's now undergoing 7-8 wks of Gemzar.  We'll see how that goes and decide what to do from there.

Re: SO......... it has returned!

well, gemzar and xeloda seem to be the first course of action here.  The hard part is getting them to eat. The chemo really breaks the body down so I am just trying to keep him hydrated with lots of fluids in between his naps and then make sure he has a small bite to eat. My doctor recommended we buy the protein powder mix.  I have been making him milk shakes with the vanilla powder, vanilla ice cream and a little bit of milk.  I also tried a root beer float which he liked and asked for again.  He seems to really like it and so far has been able to process it very well.
