Topic: Pain in the stent area

My dad has been complaining about pain in his side where the stents are.  Has anyone had experience with this?  He's scheduled to see a GI on Tuesday.  He's also on his 6th treatment of Gemzar with 2 more to go.  He's been so tired that he can not move and when he does he get's out of breath.  I'm very worried and you can tell he's very sad.  He does not read, an rarely watches TV.  The only thing he does is lay with his eyes closed and listens to slow music (which is depressing to me).  My dad is 68 yrs old diagnosed in Nov 2007 with unresectable cholangiocarinoma.  He's been through a round of 5-FU and radiation where the cancer grew slightly.  He's at stage 3 or 4.
The fatigue really bothers him.  He received a blood transfusion two days ago but he doesn't feel any different yet.

Re: Pain in the stent area

RANK... Possible leaking stent, possible fluid on the lungs.  He sounds as though he is making peace with is condition and what unfortunately depresses you may be his relief.  It's hard on you for sure,is there someone who can help you out for a bit?  I wouldn't be doing any more chemo until you get a clear okay that the stents aren't leaking and the hard breathing ,if this has not been something of the normal, in my opinion possible fluid retention possibally collapsing his lungs.  Waiting until Tuesday is a long time in my opinion.  You and your Dad might want to visit the ER if things get worse.
God Bless,
Jeff G.
