Topic: Ok, lets talk about my bum

So I am on oxilaplatin and xeloda. Side effects not so bad, hands and feet fine, mouth tendernes (no sores)...butt (arent I puny) I have discovered that anal tissue most be one of those fast growing cells that like to cause problems during chemo. Ouch! I am very tender at the exit door. Anyone with a suggestion. I am hoping a baby product will work because I really dont want to go explain this in my broken Swedish to the pharmasist.

Go ahead and laugh...you  know you want too. smile

Re: Ok, lets talk about my bum

Hi there. Gee, I thought you were talking about your favorite beggar "bum" who comes to your door! Seriously, don't know what you can take for that but how about when you sit to sit on a sheepskin? It did wonders for Teddy. Or a tube?

Re: Ok, lets talk about my bum

Oh Kris...In Germany I used to buy a cream called "Penatenkreme".  It is a great barrier and used on babies' bottoms.  It coats and heals.  In fact, anyone in this family afflicted with a cold has to smear on the cream in order to reduce the soreness accompanied with a runny nose.  They look somewhat silly with a white mustach but, hey it works.  Now, given the location of your sore I suppose you are quite safe in re: to being detected.  Oh Kris, I have to admit to having a good chuckle after reading your post.
This chemo is doing it's work by displaying it's exit in such a way.
Hugs coming your way,
Marion

Hi Kris,
A cream that works great for babies and adults too is IHLES PASTE and can be purchased in most pharmacies - I use to only be able to buy it in Canada but it is now in the States
Good luck and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Yikes!  You poor thing....have you tried Balmex, Desitin, or Bag Balm also known as udder cream , I know it is originally for cows udders but it is for human use too and it is a very thick paste not sure if it can be used on the bummy  or how about zinc oxide? Isn't that the white paste people put on their noses to prevent sunburn.  I wonder if that is the main ingredient in Desitin that soothes the babies bottoms...geez I sure hope your behind feels better soon.  Good luck Kris.  deb

Oh Kris...when I read your post I thought of Lee...the things you as patients have to go through is UNBELIEVABLE!  At the same time, your courage, stregth, strong will and fight are INCREDIBLE!  I just remember seeing him out of the tub one day and gasping at what his skin looked like, and remember him saying how he hurt on the "inside" of it...I agree with debrah, desitin is very good...and Lee really liked Aquaphor...the ointment kind.  My prayers are with you and know how proud I am of people like your wonderful self!

Love,
Heather
