Excellent stuff Marion, sounds very exciting! And I am sure that the booth will be a great success. Is this a annual thing in Chicago every year?

Re: Attendance of The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation at ASCO 2011, Chicago

Yes, it is an annual event and for the next 10 years it will be held in Chicago  whereas in previous years it had rotated between Orlando and Chicago.

And, it is huge.  McCormick Place is so big that often times I had wished for roller skates in order to navigate the different locations of symposiums.  Definitely, I can count on some aching feet at the end of the day.

The American Society of Clinical Oncology has been especially receptive to our goal of finding a cure for this cancer. If you remember the upcoming webinar, on Wednesday, is led by a member of their Conquer Cancer Foundation (formerly The ASCO Cancer Foundation) with whom we have partnered in The Young Investigator Award. This award is designed to encourage and promote high-quality research in clinical oncology.  In our case, it will be disease specific to Cholangiocarcinoma.

Although, we have had in the past years the opportunity to occupy a booth at the annual ASCO event.  This time however, we have been allotted a specific, very desirable location sponsored by ASCO.  Only 20 advocate locations are awarded each year, and we are fortunate to be amongst the select few.

Thank you Marion. This is great news and the specific booth sounds very encouraging. Hopefully your feet will not get too sore, and yes, roller skates sound like a very good idea indeed!

Hugs,

Gavin

Lainy, I agree.  We have really moved forward with this cancer.  And, thank you for all you do also.  And, a special thanks to our Teddy as he had provided us with his most memorable performance at the Society of Surgical Oncology conference held in Phoenix.
Hugs are coming your way,

Re: Attendance of The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation at ASCO 2011, Chicago

Small world!! Today I met a long standing customer of mine, that I had never met face to face, and turns out he is a Gastrointeroligist at Evanston Northwestern Hospital.  He knew exactly what CC was, he has only seen a few cases, and he kinda sighed when I told him what my dad died of, anyway, he is going to be at the ASCO in June, I told him he needs to go by your booth Marion.
BTW, I am so glad we met Linda last summer, my mom and I actually went to her wake and met her family, her sister inlaw and mother were amazing.  It was heartbreaking, but it was so great to meet them face to face and hear first hand how much this website helped Linda.  Her little boy was just a doll!  Now he has an amazing guardian angel watching out for him.
Peace
btw, Marion, I can make it to the event Feb 28.  Is it outside??brrrrrr:)

Hi Barbara....thanks for spreading the word.  How precious of you to attend Linda's wake. Thanks for sharing. Should you see any again please, send my love to all especially to Linda's little guy.
Good question about the other event you and I had discussed.  Let me forward this question to Sara, as she is the one handling it.  Brrrr...is right for Chicago.  Although, June has always be pleasant for me.  Hopefully, it is the same for this year's ASCO.
Hugs

Re: Attendance of The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation at ASCO 2011, Chicago

I plan on looking up Cindi(Lindas SIL) and Lindas mother soon.  It was so sad to hear Lindas mom say " I cant believe I only have two sons now, and not a daughter", and to see her little boy walking around in his little suit.....
Yes, by June us Chicago dwellers get the warm weather we have earned!!  Its been a tough winter!  Either way, if the event is outside, Ill tough it out if it helps us get closer to a Cure for this dreadful disease.

Oh Barb....hopefully it is not too cold.  Did you receive my e-mail?
Also, I want to mention that due to the awards ceremony involving the grant all board members will be in Chicago.  We could all meet up for dinner.  Please, anyone else able to join in let me know.
This could be the very first for us in that we could have a face to face meeting with anyone of our members.
Darla, are you able to meet us?
Hugs

Hi Marion,

It took me a while to find this thread.  smile    Have a lot going on here right now and have only been checking in now and then.  I'm not sure if I will be able to get down there at that time or not,  but will keep it in mind and  Barb thank you for the offer of a place to stay if needed.  I appreciate that.  I will be watching for updates as the time gets closer.  Hope everything is going well for both of you.

Love & Hugs,
Darla

Re: Attendance of The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation at ASCO 2011, Chicago

I was thinking about attending this until I found what it would cost.  With all the medical bills, etc...this is WAY beyond my pocketbook.

Pending my health, I would be happy to do whatever you need from me as I am only an hour away.

Margaret...other opportunity will present itself along the way.  The Cholangiocarcinoma has strict rules in that volunteers are not compensated for their labor of love however, unless we can obtain grants from the various organizations The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation will cover all expenses incurred.  This includes airfare, hotel, and meals.
So there, Margaret; you will have your opportunity also and I am looking forward to that time coming your way, sometime in the future. .
All my best wishes,
Marion

Re: Attendance of The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation at ASCO 2011, Chicago

Marion-I live in southern IL. so Chicago is  just a train ride away. I am intersted in attending, I am sure there is lots of caretakers and people in the "fight" but what about cc survivors?  I think it is important show there is survivors of this cancer, which unfortunately is very rare. Please tell me your thoughts-Cathy

Re: Attendance of The Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation at ASCO 2011, Chicago

Cathy.....thanks so very much for your generous offer of wanting to attend the conference with us.  Cathy, I am only allowed a specific amount of attendants which this year has been filled.  However, more conferences will come along and definitely I will contact you.  But please meet up with us in the early evening while we are in Chicago.
All my best wishes,
Marion
