Thanks for the link Gavin. I'm surprised, tho, that they are saying the river fluke involvement is a fairly recent discovery. I've known this since I was diagnosed last year. I didn't know, however, that it was so closely related to Pancreatic Cancer. I thought it was closely related to Colon Cancer.

Kris... cancers have certain cell structure characteristics closely related to each other.
This helped me understand:
Solid tumors vs. liquid tumors:
Solid tumors refer to a solid mass of cancer cells that grow in organ systems. It can occur anywhere in the body.
In adults we see two types of solid tumors: epithelial tumors and sarcomas. Epithelial tumors or carcinomas occur in the lining (epithelium) of the outside or inside of the organ.
The digestive system, from mouth to anus, is lined all the way down with an epithelium therefore, an epithelial tumor can occur anywhere along that lining meaning that a person could present with mouth cancer, stomach cancer, esophageal cancer, anal cancer or, bile duct cancer.
On the other hand, Sarcomas, or “connective tissue occur in the tissue that keeps the organs together. That is muscles, tendons, fat, nerves and other tissues that connect, support or surround structures and organs in the body.
Liquid tumors occur in the blood, lymph nodes or bone marrow. For example: leukemia, myeloma, and lymphoma all are liquid tumors.

Along the lines of what causes what....Had an appointment the other day with my "new" ONC and CT was good as well as LABS. He again reminded me that my UC could cause Colon Cancer or CC! I again answered him with, I know! But I am not worried about it as one to a family is enough. The next day I get a call from my Insurance that this ONC group has cancelled with them nad going to another Hospital Network. So, now I am with Banner MD Anderson which opened here last Fall. Here is the weird part. Robin found out that Banner bought the name only! I researched several of the ONCs on their Med Schools and such and quite a few of them went to 2 Star (out of 5) rated Schools. This bothers me a tad except I am just being watched. Any thoughts on 2 Star schools or am I being a patient snob?

I think all med schools are fairly similar. Students go to lecture, work in hospitals, all learn gross anatomy, take tests, and study, study , study. They all have to take the same boards to pass. It is so very competitive to even get in medical school. They only take the brightest and best. I would consider more where they did their residency and if they did a fellowship.
I do not think you are being a snob. You just want great care.
