Topic: My Mom, recently diagnosed with this disease
My mom, who is also my best friend, was recently diagnosed - had no warning really. A visit to her oncologist on September 10, 2007 showed no indications anything was out of the ordinary. My mom is a colon cancer survivor ( 6 years now) and has regular visits with her oncologist, and annual colonoscopy checkups.
10 days after my mom's visit to her oncologist, I'm taking her through the ER of a hospital because she is suddenly jaundice, almost overnight, and complaining of severe nausea and very slight pain in her side. Days later , after many tests, an ERCP was performed and a stent was put in place through the mass that is there.
The Doctor visited with my father, husband, and me moments after the procedure and explained that there is nothing that can be done. No surgery, no chemo, nothing. He told us she has a very short period of time left.
The days that followed are a blur to all of us.. One thing has been constant, my MOM has a very posititve attitude and continues to smile at all of us - even on her bad days.. She tells us that she will not cry and that she does not want to see us cry either. She is an incredible woman, - always has a "Thank you" and a "Please" for everything she needs, and refuses to let this change her spirit. She is an inspiration.
I want to do everything I can to make her remaining time here comfortable and happy for her. Any suggestions, prayers, are appreciated.
