Topic: Introduction of new members

As I reviewed the posts in this forum I have seen extremely long threads of personal experiences being shared ,which is great your able to vent and share, Howerver I might suggest using the experience forum or the " new on-line chat" Rick work so hard to set up for us.  Also a reminder we can email each other directly through the Cholangiocarcinoma .org forwarding .  I just feel bad that new members trying to introduce themselves and asking for help are getting what the CBer's say walked on. I hope I haven't  offended anyone. If I did , I offended myself cause I'm  guilty as well in kepting them threads rolling. God Bless! and please put down the frying pan as I 've had enough pain for a life time.  Cherrio !

Jeff, I think it's the nature of the beast :=)  I personally like the personal experiences, I get something out of all of them, and if they get too long winded or don't apply to me I just move on.  But that's just me

Jeff,

I would have to think that you are talking specifically about my thread. I know it has gotten long and has alot of personal stories, but that is just what came naturally. I had many members feel compelled to follow my story, and I meant no harm. It was also a way for them to talk about thier experiences and grieving as well.

I will no longer post unless I have a medical question, or need help with some hospice decisions, my e-mail is available for those who want an update or feel the need to talk.

Cdr and Lisa Ann...Please don't misunderstand me as I love reading all the personal experiences.  I'm just trying to say once a person is introduced, Further ongoing discussions should go in the experience section forum so as not to post over new introductions forum and have someone new seeking help get buried with no response from anyone.  Maybe it's my imagination but I see it happening quite a bit that I find unanswered introductions being posted over because continuing experience postings that should be going to the experience forum. Your probally right it is the nature of the beast.  Maybe the new site will allieviate some of this. It just makes me feel bad that someone is intoducing themselves and then someone post right over them before they get an answer or advice.Jeff G.
P.S.  This is not finger pointing at anyone, Just reviewing and looking for a solution that has been going on for a long time.  Please don't take any offense and continue posting as that is what this site is all about.  I'm just trying to figure away for the new introductions not to get overposted and unanswered.  Would love any suggestions,

LISA!!!  PLEASE continue posting!!!   PLEASE!!  Just continue your thread in the Experiences section as Jeff suggested.  As a moderator of several types of groups one of the biggest challenges is to keep on topic.  But that should not stop anyone from posting, that defeats the whole purpose.  So please, keep your posts coming, just under the Experiences thread.

absolutely agree, my point was that one of your biggest challenges as a moderator is to keep people on topic without p***ing them off or hurting feelings.   Do you have the power to move threads to other areas?

CDR... No , Administrator has that responsibility.  Moderator accepts reports and zaps , censors content/spam and zaps and supposively ban certain users upon abuse of site.  Although this site has been a little user unfriendly at times and is why I can't wait until the new site is luanched.

No offense was taken, and I certainly understand the position of a moderator. From now on, when and if I feel the need to post, I will do so under the experiences section.Thanks for explaining that to me. I guess I just followed the lead and when members replied to my posts, I just continued on.
Cdr, I will continue to post, only if it is helping others to read some of the personal stories. I have begun a very short journal to give to my Dad as soon as I can. I figure that way I can let him know how I feel about losing him, and maybe it will bring him some comfort.

Hi everyone,
I was just recently thinking the same thing as I posted one of my long windbag posts! One of the problems is that it's hard to find a way to post a new topic - and some of the headings just don't apply. It's much easier to hit "post reply" - also, I think a lot of people introduce themselves in the middle of another person's post because that's the only way they can figure out to do it. I'm not that computer savvy but there are those who are worse than me, and we need some help. Hopefully the new design will treat some of those issues.

No offense taken, Jeff - I know we're all guilty of it and it does make the site cumbersome sometimes. I'll post in the "experiences" section most of the time - I just needed someone to tell me what to do!

Cdr, you're absolutely right, as usual (don't you get tired of being right all the time?) Those personal experiences are so key to this site for some people, including me, but they just have to be put somewhere specific.

Lisa Ann, don't you DARE stop posting! Say whatever you want, whenever you want, write a book! Of course you're welcome to email me directly and I'd love that, but then other people don't get the benefit of hearing your story. We were all just making the site a bit convoluted so now Jeff gave us the solution - so I'll see you in Experiences!

I love the journal idea, by the way -- wish I had thought of that.

Hmmm...excellent points by all!  This will all be addressed as we "upgrade our flat!"

So I don't end up contributing to the burying of new members' posts, I will propose some suggestions for the message board over on the "Suggestions" thread, and would appreciate any comments and ideas the rest of you have!
