Topic: Scan Results

Today's scan results showed "stable disease" according to my oncologist.  That's pretty darn good news as far as I can see.  I haven't read the scan report yet for myself, so I'll take his word on it for now.

To summarize for newbies - I have a Klatskin tumor approximately 2-3 cm.  One branch of the tumor is wrapped around  my IVC.  Diagnosed Aug 2007 and given 2-3 weeks to live. Radiation.  Chemotherapy.  Failed resection in March 2008.  Lung metastasis Feb 09.  Retired April 09.

Lots and lots of prayer and trust in God.

And I'm still here.

Re: Scan Results

Lisa,
You are doing great and an inspiration to us all. 2 to 3 weeks. Go laugh in their faces. like I always say NONE OF US HAS AN EXPIRATION DATE STAMPED ON OUR FEET! You are living proof and it is so wonderful you are stable. Are they considering radiation for the lung?

Re: Scan Results

Thanks for the kind words!  I obtained a copy of my scan report and sure enough, there is no progression and there is stable disease.

I did find one phrase puzzling and didn't have a chance to talk to my doctor about it:

"Left lobe is small and heterogeneous in enhancement pattern"

I need a translator!

"IMPRESSION:
Unchanged appearance from the most recent prior study.  Mutiple bilateral small pulmonary nodules and heterogeneous enhancement pattern in a small left hepatic lobe again noted."

I think that means that the many lung nodules haven't changed, and that there is some kind of tumor growth noted in the left lobe of the liver.

Re: Scan Results

Lisa,
I just read your posting, and am SO SO happy for you - great news. Can't translater the doctorese, but know the prayers have been working. Keep on the same path.

Re: Scan Results

Dear Lisa. You are an inspiration and give real hope!!  My mum is feeling brighter today too, for the first time in several weeks, we live in hope that the stent is finally working and clearing her jaundice...I will share your good news with her.... which will really cheer her up.
I don't know what that means either, not being a medic, - but dont think it suggests a tumor...perhaps small area of damage(?) to the liver or liver change as a result of the klatskin.. but to me it reads that this is the second time it's been observed... so absolutely no changes. However, you are wise to speak to your doctor about it and get him to translate it - but I think you might find that that's why he said 'stable' ie NO changes!!  Very well done you!! Keep it up superwoman!!
