I don't know they answer to this however, I do know that certain criteria excludes different treatments. 5-FU has been used for 30 years whereas the combo. Gem/Cis is relatively new. The ascities may present itself to be a problem for this combination but, you might want to ask what exactly is causing the consideration of using one over the other therapy and what specificly, the reasons are for that decision. There is still much information to be gathered from the Gem/Cis study but, it appears that metastatic disease patients did not fair as well. I will try to keep everyone posted regarding anything I can find out regarding this study. But, please, do not hold back from doing your very own research also. Has your husband been given any diuretics for the ascities? And, if so, has it helped?
