Topic: My little part of Dundee

Hi Everyone,

I came across this video on youtube and thought that I would post it here. As the title says, it is about my little part of Dundee where I live. My area of Dundee is called Stobswell and I was born here and have lived here all my life. Not only that, my dad was born in this same area and lived all of his life here. There used to be a hospital in this area and we were both born in it, and the school you see in the video, Morgan Academy, is the school that we both went to. My mums flat is here as well, about 30 seconds walk from the school, and I live just across the road from the supermarket Lidl that is shown in the video being built. It is towards the end of the video. All of the shops and streets that are in this video are where I go pretty much every day and have done for all of my years.

This video was not made by me, but I just found it on youtube and thought I would post it as it is about my part of Dundee.

These video's are also good and show Dundee in the Victorian era. Again, they were not made by me but I do like them. Most of the buildings shown in these video's are still here today.

Anyway, just thought I would post them here.

Best wishes all,

Gavin,

What fun.  Thanks for posting these and sharing your everyday life.  I really enjoyed looking at them.  It helps give an idea of where you live and go every day.  And what a lovely charming place to live.   I almost felt like I could see you walking down those streets.  smile

I enjoyed the Victorian Era ones also.  I have an antique shop and love the Victorian Era items so those pictures were also very interesting to me.

Hi Darla and Marion,

Glad to hear that you both liked these links and now you know what my little part of the world is like! What a great thing the internet is in it helps to bring us all so much closer together!! I also like the Victorian and the historical films as I like to see what the city and life was like all these years ago, and many of these buildings still stand today. Indeed my mums flat is in a building that is over 120 years old. I've got some more youtube links and I will post them later on.

Hugs to you both,

Gavin

Dundee is known as the three J's which stand for Jute, Jam and Journalism all of which the city was known for over the last few hundred years. DC Thomson's are publishers of the newspapers and other media here in Dundee now and over many years, and my dad worked for them for nearly 50 years.

Now most of these industries are long gone and we are known more for the research and development into life sciences and technology.  Dundee is building a great reputation for the work done here in life sciences and that is something that I am personally very happy to see!

Re: My little part of Dundee

Lovely, Gavin,
I love learning about new places.  Great to put images to a name, so to speak, and you're obviously really proud of your home town.
I live near Haworth, Bronte country; perhaps I should look up a video.
