Re: question about metastatic cc

sallypa....there is some satisfaction in knowing to have tapped all the resources.  Good luck with the upcoming treatment.  Your sister may just have an easier time than anticipated.

Re: question about metastatic cc

after some problems at the hospital last week in which nothing got done because of scheduling errors. monday my sister started chemo. no problems so far except for being tired. we just keep our eyes on april 2011 when the chemo, radiation will be done and hopefully the cancer will be gone forever.

Re: question about metastatic cc

thank you all for your support. one week down. so far everything is going ok.

Re: question about metastatic cc

i just wanted to post an update. my sister finished her first cycle of gemzar chemo and now has a week off before she starts five weeks of 5fu chemo and radiation daily. so far she is doing good. the only side effects of the first round were tiredness, nausea, and some weight loss. we are all scared about this next process. we know it is going to be hard. we are praying for the best. i am praying the side effects will continue to be minimal.

Re: question about metastatic cc

sallypa...thanks for the update.  Nothing but news is coming our way.  I believe that there is a good chance for the next round of chemo to be just as tolerable to your sister as the one she has completed.  Good luck and
best wishes,
Marion

Re: question about metastatic cc

i just wanted to post an update on my sister. she is half way thru the six week chemo-radiation treatment and so far she is doing as well as can be expected. after three more weeks she will get a month off before another three months of chemo. i wish researchers could come up with a better way to treat cancer than chemotherapy. we are looking forward to the break as it coincides with christmas and new years so hopefully she can enjoy the holidays without too much discomfort.

Re: question about metastatic cc

I agree in that some day people will look back on our current treatments and consider it pre-historic.  But, we are not there yet.  I am happy though to hear that your sister has hit the half-mark soon.  Great timing, as she will be able to celebrate the holidays.  Thanks for being so kind and keeping us posted about your sis.  I hope for the next three weeks to go by real fast.
Best wishes,
Marion

Re: question about metastatic cc

my sister has completed the chemo/radiation period of her treatment. she is doing pretty well all things considered. she had a good christmas and new years. the treatment was rough but she made it thru and is now currently on a break. she lost a lot of weight but looks good. she will begin another 3 month round of gemzar at the end of the month. hopefully she will tolerate that as well as she did the first round. we were told by others that after a break the chemo seems to be more intense with more side effects. she was very happy that so far she hasnt lost her hair but again was told by others that will probably change when she restarts the chemo. does anyone know if this is true.  we keep telling her to look forward to spring and the treatments will be finished.

Re: question about metastatic cc

Hello-I did gemcidabean, 5FU, radiation and Xeloda for 9 months combined. I never had any hair loss. I only lost hair after my second transplant and that was due to all my anti-rejection medicines and a feeding tube for three months. My hair got very thin and a few bald spots, but never total loss. Good luck and lots of prayers- Cathy

Re: question about metastatic cc

i just wanted to post an update. my sister just finished her final chemo cycle.  she did pretty well all things considered. she does have some weakness and pain in her legs, and lost a lot of weight but she made it thru. now we have to just wait and see what happens. she goes for a full body scan in about a month. hopefully there will be no signs of cancer and it will never come back. we are trying to stay positive and pray for her.

Re: question about metastatic cc

Sallypa....crossed fingers on the upcoming scan.
All my best wishes are heading your way.  Please, keep us posted.

Re: question about metastatic cc

thank you all for your concern. my sister had her scan on friday. the good news was there is no sign of recurrence where the tumor was removed. we are very happy about that. the new problem is that she has been experiencing bad headaches recently. the drs now want to do a head ct scan to see if the cancer may have spread there. i was wondering if anyone had any experience with this or knows anything about this. there just never seems to be a time of relief with this disease. it is always something. also i was wondering if any one else has gotten headaches after completing the chemo-radiation cycle.

Re: question about metastatic cc

Sally....we have never seen, on this board, for this cancer to metastasize to the brain.  Someone may come forward re: headaches post chemotherapy treatment but, as far as I remember that also has not happened to any of our members.  Stay hopeful.
Crossing my fingers and sending tons of love,

Re: question about metastatic cc

Hi Sally,

That is indeed great news that there is no sign of recurrence from where the tumour was removed, and I hope that your sisters head CT scan also gives more good news.

My best wishes to you and your sister,

Gavin

Re: question about metastatic cc

thank you for the good wishes. i have been trying to find articles on the internet about what could be causing the headaches but so far nothing too conclusive. her head scan is scheduled for monday. hopefully all will go well.

Re: question about metastatic cc

Hi Sally,
It is very great news about your sister's successful surgery and chemo treatment.  I'm new to this forum and stories like your sister's really gives us hope for my brother who was diagnosed last month.
May I ask, what hospital and doctor performed your sister's surgery?  My brother is told by his doc that his CC is  "inoperable".  I'm in process to look for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th opinions.

Thanks for your help.

Love for my brother.  Being grateful for everyday.

Re: question about metastatic cc

Sally...keeping my fingers crossed for the upcoming scan.
Tons of good wishes are coming your way,

Re: question about metastatic cc

sorry i havent posted lately. we have just been enjoying so much the results of my sisters first scan after completing chemo. thanks to God no cancer was found anywhere!!! she will go back every three months and hopefully the good results will continue. after the results we took a trip to italy that we had always dreamed of to celebrate. she did great. we all walked so much throughout the vacation in the heat and she was with us step for step. the cost was way out of our budgets but for this celebration it was well worth it. the road is still long but good news is always welcome.
thank you all for your good wishes and prayers i know it is helping her fight against this terrible disease.

Re: question about metastatic cc

Re: question about metastatic cc

hi everyone, i wanted to send a update with more good news for my sister. she has had her 2nd scan and still no recurrance. every day is a blessing. she is working again and doing well. while we all know this disease is always lurking around the corner and a lot more clean scans need to come back over the next few years  at least we have hope. i continue to wish and pray for the best for everyone on this site. thank you all for your prayers and good wishes too.
