I think that it is time to stop all of this.  I think we have to be clear about the aims of this site - we all want to raise the profile of cc and to work towards a cure.  (Please think of the patients on this site relying on us to carry this forward).  We should not be put off from sharing hopeful avenues however we should be careful about the context in how we do this.  (Please see some of my dad's postings re Prof Lodge/surgery - we were clear to warn of the risks involved with surgery).  Nobody is a miracle worker.  This is a difficult disease, however Dr Canady is able to offer hope to many patients.

As for the privileges system issue - correct me if I am wrong, but is this not a system that is clearly open to abuse and exploitation? we have all come across professional rivalry.

I think you're taking my post the wrong way.  I just wanted all ( Good or Bad ) information in one area so we can read it instead of searching. No witch hunt intended here so I hope you're not taking it that way. I am sorry if more positive news about Dr. Canady has not been posted but I am sure there is some to come........
Trust me when I say this, we ALL hope this Dr. can do what he says he can. I just want some positive news before I give the thumbs up to my dad and tell him in my opinion, this guy can do what he says he can.  I give my advice based on facts, and the fact that this doctor has had his privileges revoked in more than one hospital raises a red flag for me.  I know that he is viewed as the last hope for many people, and when you have no other options it is easy to overlook the sort of research that should be done on a surgeon prior to making such a serious decision. 
My wife and I hope that Dr. Canady can help cc patients, but we are not willing to make the choice of sending my father to him without doing our research first.  We do not dispute the fact that Cindy appears to be doing well after Dr. Canady's surgery.  I think everyone on this site who is aware of Dr. Canady has read about Cindy, but we just feel that we need more information before making the choice of using Dr. Canady. 
The way we finally looked at this was to ask ourselves if we  were looking for a surgeon for one of our children, would we feel confident sending them to this doctor if we had a choice of surgeons?  Unfortunately, the answer for us was 'no' with the information that is available now.  We hope that more positive news will arise and if it does, we may adivise my father to use Dr. Canady. 

We wish the best for everyone.  This is a personal decision for each person and we only want to make sure that all people have the current facts and don't have to spend time searching for them.  I have spent much time researching treatments for this disease and feel that if I find information, why should someone else have to spend their time to find the same information?  It is much easier to have these links posted in one place and if I find some positive news, I will definitely post that too.

Hi Ron,

I also had some of the same questions that you have raised.  I truly hope that Dr. Canady is a miracle doctor that can help cure people of this terrible disease, but I also want those who are considering this drastic surgery to have both sides of the story with this doctor in order to make an informed decision.  I hope we hear some good news from those members who are meeting with Dr. Canady.  Those of you who have met with Dr. Canady, please post about your experiences.  It will help everyone to hear your stories.

My mother had surgery at MonValley Hospital one week ago by Dr. Canady to remove her Klatskin Tumor. He resected 40% of her liver and she is doing well, going home today; will start chemo/radiation in one week. She is 76 yrs. old. Dr. Canady is the most dedicated, passionate, caring doctor I have ever met. Just ask the other 4 families he did surgery on this past week, Katya's dad included.  WE ALL LOVE DR. CANADY!!!  If anyone wants any info feel free to contact me.

Tom.......  I agree with Jules, This site traditional has been providing information to all members on the different options available including different hospitals, surgeons, oncologist through significant research from significant and professional articles and publications.  Individual members have expressed their experiences of which other members have drawn from;  I would say this is first hand personal information freely submitted and to be shared.  Dr. Canady came to light with an amazing media shock to us all.  It's amazing how much of an impact the media has over people.  The bottom line is that they do not have the privilege to any information of any patient under the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and the HIPPA Act of 1996, Therefore are unable to provide nothing more than public interest stories to boost their ratings.  This one found it's way to our friendly non -political and non controversial web site and has been creating tension for many members since.  As Jules mentioned and I agree, enough is enough on this particular doctor. This is a sensitive and emotional time for members.  This site is not a tool for individual members digging for information on a particular doctor.  If you have a genuine interest in this particular doctor, make an appointment with him and determine first had for yourself.  If other newly members want to share their experience and provide their personal opinion great.  But we do not want or need to be requesting there personal information a week after supossively having surgery or at all, I would think a little tact and diplomacy applies here.  All members by now have access to this doctor's e-mail address, location, and telephone numbers.  They now have the tools to make an informed decision.  Whatever is voluntarily in time, provided by other members with undue pressure concerning this doctor  would be surely welcomed.  This post is soley my opinion and is not intended to demean or offend anyone and their beliefs. I just feel that enough attention to this media driven topic that gives "nothing tangable" is over.  I will say one thing from personal experience,  not even microscopic exploration can determine disease free of cholangiocarcinoma, Therefore, I still say hope is in the air for a cure as a surgeon can only extend life through resection and cortorizing vessels, and implanting stents, and other procedures,  hopefully long enough for that miracle of a cure to arrive. I guess my opinion is let go of the media hype and wait to see if anything positive is voluntarily posted from members who may have used this surgeon's services as we do for any other member having surgery with some other surgeon.

Jeff,  I feel that my posts are being taken in the wrong context, I am not trying to persuade people not to see Dr. Canady, I have never said that.   In fact, my family has already contacted Dr. Canady and he agreed to see my dad, but I felt that I needed to do a little research before jumping into such a serious surgery.  My wife and I both just had one of those "gut" feelings that we needed to get more information before sending my dad to see Dr. Canady, that's all.   
As far as following "media hype", that is exactly why I have posted the links.  I know that it is so easy for people that feel there are no options available to jump into something based on what they have heard on TV or the internet.  The links that I posted were based on facts, I only wanted people to know that Dr. Canady has had his privileges revoked on more than one occasion and by more than one hopsital.  These are important facts to know when choosing a surgeon.   I have received emails with words of appreciation from some members for posting the information that I have found, so I am glad to hear that is has been helpful for some. 
This site is for the sharing of information, family experiences, what works, what doesn't work, etc.  I am not trying to "pressure" anyone to post about their experiences, I just simply wanted to let them know that I and others would be interested to hear about their experiences if they wish to share.   Time is of the essence with this disease and anyone that is willing to post about their recent experience helps us all.

I'm sorry to hear that your husband was unable to proceed with surgery.  Thank you for sharing your information and your experience.  I have also read other members posts that speak of how caring and dedicated Dr. Canady is to his patients, that is great to hear. I know my father's experiences with doctors have mostly been rushed and impersonal, so it is nice to hear that there are still some doctors out there that take the time to get to know their patients, it means alot.
I hope your husband recovers quickly from the surgery.

Tom,   I surely wish you and your Dad the best.  I personally Have no opinion of Dr. Canady one way or the other.  He Basically stated that he uses 3-D imagery to determine the best approach or if  surgery is possible.  All surgeons use 3-D imagery.  There is obvious differences of opinion in the medical arena.  But then again isn't that how break throughs and  progress come about?  Especially if toes have been stepped on or if someone was not included on the invention side of his life.  Well, I said I had no opinion but gave one away.  I pray that he can extend life as professionally as other surgeons.  I guess my sources for making decisions have to come from somewhere other than tabloid news.
Again,  I'm talking about his professional ability as a surgeon not that he was denied priveleges at a hospital; as if there was incompentency issuses the news would be more on the lines of his right to practice medicine period.  I wish Your Dad the best care and treatment possible! I opologize if my earlier post felt like I was attacking, personal feelings of how much damage news media can do to a person probally seeped through a bit.
