Compassionate Allowance/ Social Security

My husband, Gary, received Social Security Disability through the Compassionate Act.  He applied more than a year after his diagnosis and he had been working parttime up to that point.  Because he was no longer able to work, his application was processed immediately, the date of eligibility was determined to be the first visit he ever made to our ER with jaundice.  He was paid retroactively...I believe minus the 5 month required waiting period.  Eventhough his diagnosis was CC it was never questioned that he was included as part of this act (possibly because liver/pancreatic cancers are listed and he had Whipple surgery?).  I believe part of our success with SS was the extremely compassionate gentleman who handled Gary's case.  He went out of his way to advise us and to obtain the information needed from Gary's employer.  I hope this is helpful.

I applied for social security disability at our local social security office just a couple of weeks after initial diagnosis of inoperable cc, and was approved in two weeks.  Had to wait 5 months before the first check was issued.

I was told my bile duct cancer was on the quick approval list.  That was over two years ago.  You're probably be right.  It's probably listed in the small print under liver cancer.

I was diagnosed with extrahepatic bile duct cancer, so it seems it has been included all along.

Marion, this is a question for social security.  All I know for sure is that I was diagnosed with inoperable extrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma in July 09, applied for ss disability in Aug 09  and approved in two weeks.

My eligibility date went back two weeks before formal diagnosis which was the last day I worked at my job.  I had seen my local doctor with complaints of jaundice and itching without a rash but did not have a diagnosis.

At that time it seemed like my last day working was important to social security.  I'm sure they look at each case individually, but those of us with cc get looked at very fast.

My SSD started 5 months after diagnose. I was diagnosed July 31, 2008. I applied December 2008, approved with in 2 weeks and received my first check Febuary 2009. I made one phone call, filled out an app on line and then did a 45 minute interview on phone (time was prearraigned)!! This is how goverment should be run, so simple and effiecent!! Everyone with CC needs to apply, age makes no difference.
