Topic: Goodbye mom

After an unbelievably tough fight with this cancer, my beautiful mom has passed away. She was a wonderful mother, sister, wife, mother-in-law, grandmother, friend and teacher. There are no words to describe how much I love and miss her. She made the world a better place. I’ll never forget how hard she fought or what a strong front she put on when inside, she must have been hurting so much. She’s finally at peace.

Letter from Heaven  by Ruth Ann Mahaffey

To my dearest family some things I'd like to say
But first of all to let you know that I arrived okay,
I'm writing this from Heaven. Here I shall dwell with God above
Here, there's no more tears of sadness. Here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy because I'm out of sight
Remember that I am with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through
God picked me up and hugged me and He said "I welcome you,
It's good to have you back again,
you were missed while you were gone,
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
God gave me a list of things that he wished for me to do
And foremost on the list was to watch and care for you
And when you lie in bed at night, the days chores put to flight
God and I are closest to you . . in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth and all those loving years
Because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears
But do not be afraid to cry, it does relieve the pain
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
One thing is for certain though my life on earth is o'er
I'm closer to you now than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb
Together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
When you're walking down the street and you've got me on your mind
I'm walking in your footsteps, only half a step behind
And when it's time for you to go . . from that body to be free
Remember you're not going . . you're just coming here to me.

Re: Goodbye mom

Dear Jeff,

I am so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing.  I hope you find peace in that she is no longer suffering, but I know it will be so hard not to see her anymore.  She will be in your heart forever and that is what's important.  By the way you write about her, I can tell you loved her so much.  She was lucky to have such a wonderful son.  Take care.

Re: Goodbye mom

Thank you all for the nice words and condolences.  For me, the hard work starts now.  Trying to get over this incredible sadness and getting used to this "new" normal.

Re: Goodbye mom

Dear Itfoundusin2011,

I lost my Mom to this monster in April 2009.  Some of the things I've learned are Grief is the price we pay for love.  You will find grieving the hardest job you've ever faced.  There is no timetable for grief and no two people will grieve in the same way or timeframe.  Be gentle on yourself and give it time.  Eventually you will work through your grief and the good memories will replace the bad ones.

You are a wonderful legacy your Mom leaves behind.  Take care.  You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Hugs,
Pam

My Mom lost her one year battle with CC on April 3, 2009.

"A prognosis is simply an audit of how truly precious each day is.  Live each day to the maximum, celebrate what was, and what is - Don't spend your life looking forward to what will or might be." .... words of wisdom from my beloved son on hearing of his grandmother's CC prognosis.

Re: Goodbye mom

Jeff;

I am sorry about your Mom.  I read your post about all the things you learned while taking care of your Mom.  What a wonderful son you are.  I too learned so much while taking care of my Mom.  She passed at 76 just this February, she started feeling a little stomach pain and turned jaundice.  It was only 6 months from the time of diagnosis in which she passed.  Caring for her in the home was not an easy thing to do as I had to watch her suffer.  But this was my Mom, and oh such a good friend.  I would do it again if I had to.  Nothing would stop me from taking care of Mom.  My heart goes out to you.

Re: Goodbye mom

Jeff:

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your mom.  Keep her alive in your hearts and memories.  Those memories will live in your heart forever.

God Bless;
