Topic: The Great British Story: Dundee

Hi all,

Just thought I would share this here. It was a TV program that was on on Tuesday night here in Scotland about my home town of Dundee, and you know I like doing my bit for the Dundee Tourist Board! It lasts for 30 minutes and it can be viewed here if you want to watch it -

"Songwriter and Deacon Blue vocalist Ricky Ross returns to his home town of Dundee to investigate both its history and hidden landscapes.

Dundonians and local experts guide Ricky through the archives and streets where evidence of his ancestors' struggles and achievements still remains."

Ricky Ross who presents the program used to be the leader of the youth club that I used to go to many many years ago when I was a kid and he is a real good guy. At least he was back then when I knew him! But I suspect he still is! He left Dundee to move to Glasgow and formed the band Deacon Blue who became very popular back in the 80's and 90's, and they had many hits and made a load of albums. So local boy did well and I suspect that some here in the Uk will have heard of Deacon Blue.

There is a bit in the Dundee vid when the 2 people in the program are in and outside Baxter Park, and then on Park Avenue. Now this ain't Park Avenue for all you New Yorkers, this is my Park Avenue where I grew up! My mum lives on the street running down on to Park Avenue, about 20 seconds walk from what you see in the video.

Anyway, I enjoyed the video and just thought I would share it here as I like to share as much as I can about my hometown. I think the main vid in this post can be viewed on that link for the next 5 days only. If you watch it then I hope you enjoy it.

Hi Gavin, I wasn't able to open the video because it said it's only available in the UK. Not only for a commonwealth country?

" I do find the answer" that the Park Avenue where your mum lives is in fact more beautiful than the one I visited in New York ( no offense to those who lives in NY city), and the old yellow car they drove on remind me the one that I had long time ago with the "eight tracks tape" radio on it. Dundee indeed is a beautiful place. Be sure to say hi to your mum for me and tell her I like that Park Avenue a lot. Thanks Gavin and

Hmmm, damm! Seems that all of you guys over on the other side of the pond can't watch the vid. Stupid BBC and their copywrite and all that! I pay my licence fee every year so I should complain to them and tell them to free the Iplayer vids up so that my friends in other parts of the world can watch them too! So much for their "World Service" ............

I'll see if I can find another way of posting the vid and maybe it will come on Youtube soon. If I can find a way I'll post it here.
