Topic: General Discussion - Update on Jeff - night sweats?

Jeff has finished his first round of chemo with Xeloda and Oxaliplatin. Everything went well. He starts round 2 next Friday.

He is experiencing some fatigue and has had more pain in his side recently. He is able to rest when he needs to, even at work. His employer is being and has been very supportive.

He recently started to experience chills and night sweats. He has never had night sweats before. His T-shirt and sheets are drenched some mornings. This seems to happen about once or twice a week for him. Has anyone else experienced this?

We had to reschedule our second opinion with the doctor at USC so that we could get all of the appropriate records and films sent over. We now have this set for the 9th.

We did have some good news recently. On 10/17 he had both an upper and lower GI endoscopy. Both were "clean as a whistle". No tumors, no suspicious lesions. We had gotten to the point of dreading every diagnostic test for fear of bad news. You know, it is nice to hear something good for a change.

As usual, Jeff continues to maintain his cheerful disposition.

Hi Bob & Nancy, so glad to hear that Jeff is weathering the Chemo well except for the night sweats. Teddy never had chemo so can't help there, just wanted to pop in and say hi. I am looking forward to the 2nd opinion if for no other outcome than to rest your minds. Your attitudes are great and I must say your posts are so full of love and there is a great calmness about you, even if there are times you are scared and stressed. Of course you have many prayers coming your way. Looking forward to the 9th!

Thanks for the update. It is so good to hear from you. You have been in our thoughts and prayers. It sounds like Jeff has a wonderful disposition indeed, and it's remarkable that he is working through all of this.

I'm sorry I can't help with the night sweats since that is not a side effect I personally experienced. Others may chime in on that. We will all look forward to the 9th. No second opinion is a waste of time. As Lainy said, even a confirming opinion from another expert gives you the satisfaction that you are doing all that you can and are on the right track.

BobandNancy....it is nice of you to check in with us; great news about the endoscopy too.
In regards to the night sweats, several thoughts come to mind:
Infection due to the stent:  as far as I remember Jeff received his stent in August of this year.  Due to accumulation of sludge and debris, plastic stents need to be replaced every 30 to 90 days (sometimes sooner – sometimes later.)  Metal stents which are considered permanent can be cleaned out or, as we have seen in some instances are fitted with a plastic stent.
Tumor fevers:  A common occurrence with advanced cancer.  For you convenience I have enclosed a few postings:
