Topic: Stents

Hi everyone. My dad has been diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma in Athens, Greece.  I am flying out to Athens tomorrow morning from Las Vegas to see him. While I am there he will be doing chemo as well as putting stents in. I'm not sure what the stents procedure entails. Will it hurt and how long will he take to recover. Also what part does this play in the Cholangiocarcinoma process. Thank you in advance for your advice!

Re: Stents

Dear Stamitina, my husband had stents with an external bag. Not sure how they do things in Greece but I can say that for Teddy they would gie him an injection that made him very sleepy. He never felt a thing  and after he was wide awake again we went home. He never had any pain from the procedure. The stent is used to keep the flow of bile through the bile duct normal. IF the flow is blocked then Jaundice sets in so it is important to keep that flow open. Safe travel and much good wishes to your Dad.

Re: Stents

Statima...most patients are fine with a light sedative however; some prefer to have it done under anesthesia.  Both ways are fine; the later is a little riskier in re: to the medication.  Your Dad should be fine and most of all, he will feel much better.  Good luck, travel safely and please stay in touch.

Re: Stents

Dear Lainy and Marion,
Thank you for your quick responses. Great to hear the procedure will make him feel better. I'm all set and ready to take off from LV tomorrow morning at 9:00 am.

Something funny that happened the other day... I do believe that the spirit lives on after we pass and even though Vinny (my dad) is in his 80s, he is a real flirt and loves beautiful women. Well last night I had a dream that my dad was in a beautiful place surrounded by beautiful women and that he was very happy. I woke up feeling a sense of peace that is hard to describe. I'm sure that my dream would be Vinny's version of heaven.

Many hugs to both of you and sending lots of positive energy from LV!

Re: Stents

Stamatina, LOVE the dream. If you have read any of my posts you will know what a Believer I am in the after life. My interpetation is that you are preparing and you know that IF Vinny leaves he will be going to a more beautiful and Peaceful Eternity. I love your description of Vinny. BTW my Sister who lives in Summerlien just spent 2 days with me. Have a safe travel, do not be afraid, and be strong.

Re: Stents

Stamatina,

I had a stent placed at the beginning of my journey before I had the Whipple surgery.  The procedure is painless.  Don't worry.

Safe travels.

Re: Stents

Hi Stamatina,

My dad also had a stent placed. He had a metal one instead of a plastic one and that was to help the bile flow again and clear up his jaundice. The stent worked well for my dad and it did get things flowing again and dealt with the jaundice. He also said that it was not a painful procedure.

Best wishes to you and your dad,

Gavin

Re: Stents

Hi Stamatina,

I would like to welcome you to this site. I do not have any experience with stents, so I can't help you with that. I have heard that people feel much better after they are placed with regards to itching and high bilirubin. Have a safe trip to Greece and I hope your Dad feels better soon.

Hugs,

Re: Stents

Lainy thank you for your kind words about my dad. I am very glad to be with him. I arrived in Greece yesterday. Although he is weak and thinner since I last saw him his spirits are up and he is still the same old Vinny. He was there to greet me with a roll of euros for spending money (I'm 44 years old), and his shirt is always unbuttoned no matter the weather to expose his hairy chest. Was very happy to see this.

Thank you Randi and Gavin for your feedback on the stents. I reassured him the procedure wouldn't be painful and he was happy to hear that. Also Pam thank you for your warm welcome and positive thoughts.

Many hugs and much love to you all from Athens, Greece

P.S. Will post a recipe for chicken vegetable soup that my husband (he trained as a chef) showed me to make for my dad. I'll post it in the Nutrition section. It is high in protein, low in fat and easy to digest.

Re: Stents

Stamatina, glad you had a safe trip but even happier that "Vinny" met you as his old sexy self! I have a sneaking suspicion tghat his attitude is going to get him further than you think. Your soup recipe lools very good and very healthy. Teddy used to like more comfort foods and this sure fits the bill. Enjoy your visit and make some great Memories. Did they set a date yet for the stent placement? It is easy breezy so don't worry about it. Or try not to worry! OK, So, give one of those chest hairs a yank and say I wish him well!
