Topic: My husband has passed

On March 30, my husband Chris passed away. He was so ill the preceding week, I was actually relieved for him. I miss him terribly, but constantly remind myself that he is finally at peace. That helps me cope with my grief. I will donate all the money I received to this foundation with the hope that it will help in the search for more effective treatments for this awful disease.
For anyone interested in reading his obituary, it can be found at altoonamirror.com.  It was in the April 5th edition.

Re: My husband has passed

Dearest Dianne, I am so very sorry to read of Chris's Passing. I read the Obituary and how wondeful of you to ask for Donations to CC, Foundation. If can say this, what a handsome man!  I know that you know he is in a safe, healthy and Peaceful place now. Please accept my condolences to you and your family.

If I should be the first to go,
And leave you alone, my Dear,
Let not your heart be lonely,
Nor in your eyes a tear.
Grieve not for me, my Darling,
I’ll not be far away,
With petals of love and tenderness,
I’ll pave for you the way.
To join me in our sanctuary,
And ne’er again we’ll part.
Grieve not for me, my Darling,
I live within your heart.
Take joy again in living,
As you did in years gone by;
God knows what of he’s doing,
And not be questioned why.
Grieve not for me, my Darling,
My life with you on earth
Each moment filled with happiness,
And love so few be worth.
I’ll be waiting for you Sweetheart
Where skys are ever blue,
With eager heart and open arms
Patiently, for you.
Grieve not for me, my Darling,
May faith and my love keep.
Your soul filled with contentment
Eternally, I sleep.

Re: My husband has passed

Thank you Lainey. I appreciate your kind words.
I also just realized that I goofed. It was in April 4th. I'm sleep-deprived I guess. This has been a very hard week.

Re: My husband has passed

Diane, your entitled after what you have been through, I just guessed that was it. You will be busy for a bit with plans and getting everything in order then will come the lull which you may feel a little more because of all the pressure you have been under and then all the different emotions quiet down and then the "new normal"will set in. Take your time, there are no time limits on grief. I will be thinking of you!

Dear Dianne,

You have my deepest sympathy on the loss of your husband Chris.  I too read the obituary and yes, he was a very handsome man who accomplished much in his life.  Your mention of donations to this foundation was a very considerate thing to do.

Yes, he is no longer in pain or suffering and  you can take some comfort in that.

Know that I am thinking of you and your family at this sad time.  Take care.

Re: My husband has passed

Dianne,

I just read Chris' obituary and was so touched by his family devotion and his dedication to nursing.  I am sure he will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched. And to direct the donations to the cc foundations seems entirely consistent with how it appears he lived his life in service to others through his nursing.

Please accept my condolences and my hope that you find comfort in your happy memories of your dear husband.

Re: My husband has passed

Thanks so much to all of you for your responses and your condolences. I really appreciate you and this website. It's been such a comfort over this past year to have a support group that knows what you're going through. It's been difficult to say the least, but I know that this is part of life and hard as it is, we all have to go through it at one time or another.
I am having one strange response I didn't anticipate, survivor guilt.  I keep wondering why him and not me?  A question with no answer and I usually don't waste my time with things like that, but it's really causing me some pain. I know it has a lot to do with the fact that I am now living his dream. He always wanted to return to this area to be with his family and retire here, fish, plant a big garden, orchard, etc. and he never got the chance. I know I'll get past this cause there's really no other choice, but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

Re: My husband has passed

Dianne. I have not read about survivor's guilt on this site but I am positive Chris would not want you thinking that way. Instead I picture him smiling down on you as you make a beautiful garden with a place to sit in comfort while you think of the happiest of memories. You have not had enough time at all to even begin thinking better thoughts but in time you will know when you have arrived at your "new normal". In the meantime feeling guilty is maybe how you can best express your feelings. What ever works for you, just left the grief flow and one day the sun will shine in that garden after the rain helps it to grow.
