Topic: Clear Scan

6 months ago my father was told his prognosis was 6-12 months with his cholangiocarcinoma. Yesterday he was told "there are no signs of cancer". While we are over the moon, we are just a little confused. Was he misdiagnosed? Words can't describe how happy we are, but is it going to come back. He had just had 6 months of gemcytobine on its own.

Re: Clear Scan

Dear Sheedy,

This sounds like excellent news! I am so pleased to get good news on this site. It gives a ray of hope for the rest of us. What treatment is your father currently taking? Is he still on gemcytabine. Unfortunately this cancer tends to come back hence suggest speaking to you Oncololgist regarding further treatment.

Re: Clear Scan

Sheedy,

That is great news about your dad.  Did he have surgery before his chemo?  I would talk to the doctor about his plans for future treatment and scan schedule.

Enjoy the moment!

Re: Clear Scan

Hi Sheedy,

This is superb news about your dad!! And thanks so much for sharing it here with us all! We have in the past heard of similar news to that you and your dad got yesterday when doctors had previously given a prognosis and life expectancy to someone. If I was you, I would just enjoy this news right now and celebrate big time! Yes this cancer can come back, but I'm with Randi here, enjoy the moment!!

Hugs,

Gavin

Re: Clear Scan

Dear Sheedy, this CC sure seems to have  a mind of it's own. We can't even guess about this one but it's one big miracle for now. Enjoy this time and as with any remission I hope the ONC will be checking your Dad  closely. For now and possibly evermore. it is a huge YIPPEE!

Re: Clear Scan

Thanks guys, he was told he doesn't need to be seen for 3 months. I think we should make an appointment though as we have a lot of questions that we just forgot when we got the news

Re: Clear Scan

Sheedy....three months to next testing is fairly standard unless of course symptoms necessitate an earlier visit. Cherish the good news, stay vigilant and in order to be best prepared to speak with the physician, make a list of the unanswered questions.
Congratulations and many hugs,
