Topic: My Friend Martha Leyva Has Passed

I would like to honor my sweet friend Martha, aged 57, who passed away late on Oct 31st of ICC.  She was level-headed, hard working, thoughtful and sensitive to others worrying about her. After 17 months, her liver was giving out and she developed ascites 6 weeks ago and pneumonia a week ago.   She worked at the same hospital where she got her treatments and she had a support network there at Cedars Sinai in LA.  She often reached out to my sister and I when she heard my sister had the same exact diagnosis last year.  She did not seek online support such as this site (though I did tell her how much it helps but I think she was afraid of the sad parts) and she had a great support system from her large family and partner.  I got to know her because her lovely sister Ana is my friend here and Ana was my Dad's elder-companion until he passed in April.  We became close friends from the time I met Ana and she was an angel with my father. So Ana is grieving the loss of her sister and I am scared for my own sister, though she is doing ok.  Martha blessed so many and selflessly reached out to us at least once a month over the past year to see how WE were doing!  She fulfilled her dream of getting married this summer to the love of her life and was radiantly happy though she shared that knew she did not have lots of time left on this earth.  I am confident she is at peace and feeling all the love that surrounds her.

Re: My Friend Martha Leyva Has Passed

Willow, I am so very sorry about Martha. Sometimes we make friends that we consider as close as family and it hurts just as much when they leave.

Those we love must someday pass beyond our present sight…
They leave us and the world we know without their radiant light.
But we know that like a candle their lovely light will shine
To brighten up another place more perfect…more divine.
And in the realm of Heaven where they shine so warm and bright,
Our loved ones live forevermore in God’s eternal light.

Willow....My heart goes out to everyone having lost this most beautiful person to this horrible cancer.
Tonight when gazing at the sky I will search for another bright star - that of your dear Martha.
May the hearts begin to heal one day at a time and may the pain of the loss not overshadow the legacy of dear Martha.
Hugs and love,
Marion

Re: My Friend Martha Leyva Has Passed

Dear Willow, Your memory of Martha will be a great tribute to her.  You are a good friend.  I still think of my Mother, Father and sister Kathryn who have all passed away.  Not only have their bodies left the earth, my husband died on June 16, 2011.  He was a wonderful man and a good example of what people should be.  He was joyful, cool and kind.  He will never never die as long as people who knew him continue to remember him and talk about him.  I think of my dearly departed family each day and sometimes I feel their strong presence is with me, especially since my diagnosis.  I wish you peace.  Patricia Avery a/k/a LadyLinden
