Topic: Passed Away

My mother inlaw, Joan, passed away June 29.   She was diagnosed in Feb 2013while vacationing in Florida. At that time she was also made aware of having PSC. She went for a consult in March 2013 at Mayo and was told it was inoperable.   She did chemo of gem/Cis and then external radiation.   In May 2014, she began to have fluid on her abdomen which tested positive for adenocarcinoma.  At this point she was referred to hospice care.

She lived her life to the fullest.  She went skydiving, Glacier National Park, Orange Beach, and golfing.   She took a 12 day trip to Yellowstone, Grand Tetons and ended in Montana for her grandson's high school graduation starting over Memorial weekend 2014.

Joan made sure she was enrolled in both the PSC and bile duct cancer studies through Mayo clinic.  She also had her type of cancer listed in her obituary to raise awareness.

My heart goes out to all of effected by this cancer and I pray for better treatments and a cure!

Re: Passed Away

Dear Rosegrace, I am so very sorry to read about your Mother-in-law, Joan. It sounds like she was quite an adventurous lady and she certainly did it her way. I remember when you told us about her wanting to take that trip and thinking, WOW, how can she do that? What a great example  she was of living life to the fullest. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Those we love must someday pass beyond our present sight…
They leave us and the world we know without their radiant light.
But we know that like a candle their lovely light will shine
To brighten up another place more perfect…more divine.
And in the realm of Heaven where they shine so warm and bright,
Our loved ones live forevermore in God’s eternal light.

Re: Passed Away

Dear Mollie,

I am so sorry to hear that your mother-in-law Joan has passed away.  You and  your family have my deepest sympathy.   Try to take some comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering or in pain.    She sounds like a wonderful, adventurous lady who lived her life to the fullest.  Her thoughtfulness in  registering in the Mayo studies and also mentioning Cholangiocarcinoma in her obituary are greatly appreciated.   My thoughts are with all of you at this sad and trying time.

Hugs,
Darla
