Every Step Counts: June 30-Mile Challenge Raises Over $93,000

This June, the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation community laced up their sneakers, took to the trails, sidewalks, and treadmills, and joined together for a common cause: to walk one mile a day for 30 days—and raise awareness and funds to fight a rare and relentless cancer.
Our first-ever June 30-Mile Challenge asked participants to commit to a simple but powerful goal: 30 miles in 30 days. What we witnessed was nothing short of inspiring. Across the country and beyond, individuals shared their stories, set bold goals, and rallied their networks in support of patients and caregivers impacted by cholangiocarcinoma.
Together, you raised more than $93,000—a staggering show of support that will directly fund life-saving research and critical patient programs. Behind each mile walked was a personal story of love, loss, hope, and healing. We’re honored to share just a few reflections from this powerful movement:
Every mile was a quiet act of hope — a way to stand up for those impacted by rare cancers like cholangiocarcinoma and to help protect the research that gives us a fighting chance.
– Sarah Rypma, participant
This year I did it in memory of my mom, Lori Rubin, who passed away on March 26 after a hard-fought battle. Next year will be in honor of both her and Jonah Gruda—her bestie from chemo and a fellow cholangio warrior.
– Gigi Heyman
The 30-Mile Challenge gave me a way to channel my grief into purpose. Every step I took was a celebration of my dad’s zest for life.
– Emily Depasse
My family and I can’t begin to thank all the people who donated to this cause so near and dear to our hearts. We are so fortunate to have so much love and support.
– Anne Dudley
For me, walking is healing—it has always been my pathway to better health.
– Jean Gasen
