Integrative Medicine in Bile Duct Cancer
A diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma/bile duct cancer affects more than just the body.
Integrative medicine focuses on supporting the whole person. This means addressing how one is feeling physically, emotionally, and mentally alongside doctor-prescribed cancer treatment.
Integrative oncology combines evidence-based therapies with conventional treatments such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, surgery, and radiation. These therapies are designed to help manage symptoms, reduce side effects, and improve overall quality of life during and after treatment.
Patients may benefit from supportive approaches such as:

Mindfulness, meditation, yoga, and tai chi practices

Acupuncture, massage therapy, and bodywork techniques

Exercise and movement programs matched to energy levels

Nutrition counseling and dietary support for symptoms

Counseling, CBT, and stress management interventions
Research shows that integrative therapies may help reduce fatigue, anxiety, nausea, pain, sleep disturbances, and emotional distress commonly experienced during cancer treatment. Many major cancer centers now offer integrative oncology services as part of comprehensive cancer care.
Nutrition
For patients with cholangiocarcinoma, nutrition and supportive care can be especially important because the disease and treatments may affect digestion, appetite, nutrient absorption, and energy levels. Open communication with your oncology team about supplements, herbs, and complementary therapies is essential to ensure safety and coordination of care.
