Finding Hope in the Journey
January 26th, 2023 – a day that will be forever etched in my memory. Cancer had never been a word that I would have associated with my mother. But there we were, confused and in disbelief as the doctor explained her diagnosis- Stage 4 cholangiocarcinoma with metastasis in the stomach. Not knowing what to expect, my family and I were thrust into a desperate search for answers… for reliable information…for support. How were we meant to navigate this rare disease that seemed to have no clear path forward? But amid the uncertainty, I found solace in the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation (CCF) and its support group community.
Through the Cholangiocarcinoma Support Group, I was able to connect with families, caregivers, and patients who understood the complexities and challenges of this rare cancer. They helped me navigate the labyrinth of treatment options and medical jargon and provided guidance on nutrition. But beyond the practical support, the CCF offered a sense of connection and understanding during what was undoubtedly one of the most challenging times in my life. Finding a community of people who were transparent and unafraid to be vulnerable gave me a sense of hope at a time when I needed it the most.
To those facing this rare and challenging disease, I want you to know that the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation is here for you, like it was for me, offering strength, understanding, and a community that cares. Let’s continue to raise awareness about this horrible disease! Thank you, CCF.
