Why EPIC Cancer Camp Was Life-Changing for Me

“In the summer of 2024, 18 months after being diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, I attended EPIC Cancer Camp—and it truly changed my life. I’m one of the lucky ones who received an early diagnosis and had a successful resection, but even with that blessing, the physical and emotional toll was crushing. Cholangiocarcinoma—“the beast”—is an aggressive, deadly cancer that leaves invisible scars long after surgery or treatment ends.

Back home, family and friends try to be understanding but it is impossible to explain to them to understand what it’s really like. Yes, I’m currently NED but the fear never fully leaves. The every three-month scans brings back the dread: What if it’s back? Will I still be here in a year? Will I be strong enough to see my grandson play baseball? These aren’t just passing worries—they’re ever-present shadows darkening your brightest moments.

At EPIC camp, I finally found people who truly understood. Other warriors living with the same diagnosis, the same fatigue, the same pain, anxiety, and constant uncertainty. These weren’t just campers—they were kindred spirits. We shared stories, laughter, tears, and most importantly, we leaned on each other. That alone was healing.

But the camp is more than support. It gently pushes you to rediscover your inner strength—through physical challenges you never thought you could handle, and through deep emotional reflection in a safe space. You arrive carrying exhaustion, fear, and questions. You leave feeling reenergized, connected, and equipped with tools to keep walking the “after cancer” path.

EPIC Camp reminded me that I am still a warrior. Not just surviving—but living, with purpose and power. If you come with an open heart and a willingness to face your fears, you’ll walk away stronger than you ever imagined.

After EPIC, I no longer walk alone in my journey.”
